HoLEP Masterclass at Stellenbosch University

In August 2026, Stellenbosch University hosted a HoLEP Masterclass at their world-class Sunskills Lab, in association with Quanta Lasers from Vertice.

I was amongst the four South African Experts, who lectured to attending urologists, and then performed live surgical cases to teach the procedure.

We were joined by Dr Thiago Hota, a leading Brazilian HoLEP surgeon, who shared his expertise with us.

It was a fantastic two days of sharing knowledge and expertise with urologists who attended from around the country.

Thank you to Stellenbosch University(Prof Andre van der Merwe/Dr Pieter Spies) for hosting us and leading the course; our other local experts Dr Alex Szpytko, Dr Kent Pluke, Dr Winston Padayachee; Dr Thiago Hota for flying across from Brazil to share his expertise as one of South America’s leading HoLEP surgeons; and the attendees from around the country.
